Men of Color Read participate in summer reading program at Grand Rapids-area parks

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Jon Covington said he discovered Hackley Library in Muskegon as a young child and it opened up his world to possibility.

“No matter what was going on around me, I went to the library every Saturday morning, most Saturday mornings, and just lost myself in the library,” said Covington. “I walked out of there just believing anything is possible. Anything is possible if you believe it’s possible. And that’s what books did for me.”

When he got older, Covington decided he was going to do something so young kids who look like him – or maybe don’t – would understand there is power in reading. He wanted to reach underserved communities and give kids an example…
