MEBANE, N.C. — Heavy rain brought a devastating wave of destruction across Alamance County washing out roads, demolishing a century-old landmark, and reminding families just how fragile memories can be.
Road crews are working around the clock to repair the damage. But in Mebane, it’s clear just how difficult that job will be. A 50-foot section of Dickey Mill Road completely collapsed into the creek below, leaving behind a gaping hole and a long road to recovery.
One car was found filled with water in the road collapse, its rear window smashed out.
