ALCOA, Tenn. — A City of Alcoa public information officer said a woman fell asleep at the wheel and crashed her car before it caught on fire Monday night near McGhee Tyson Airport.
Alcoa Public Information Officer Emily Assenmacher said the driver of a 2017 Nissan Rogue was headed north on Airport Highway near Payne Avenue when she fell asleep at the wheel, veered off the road, overcorrected and crossed two lanes of traffic before striking the cable barriers in the median.
