West Nile virus confirmed in Randall County after blood donation screening

RANDALL COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas Department of State Health Services reported confirmed West Nile virus activity in Randall County, after the virus was found in donated blood during screening.

According to a Texas county summary map published by Texas DSHS, West Nile virus activity was reported in Randall County through a “mosquito pool, sentinel chicken, horse, human, or presumptive viremic donor.”

In Randall County, the case was listed in the PVD column, according to DSHS, meaning the virus was found in blood donated by a Randall County resident when it was screened. Because the person did not have symptoms, it was not counted as a “case” of West Nile virus…
