Hotel Pattee reopens after flooding in June

PERRY, Iowa — The historic Hotel Pattee in Perry has now reopened after flooding in early June caused the hotel to temporarily close.

On June 2, the Hotel Pattee had a water pipe burst on the top floor of the hotel when maintenance was attempting routine maintenance. Within minutes, the water had leaked onto the second floor and then to the lobby. Jenny Eklund is one of the operators of the hotel and said that without the help of Rainbow Restoration, a local restoration company, the damage could have been much worse.

“They put up walls to try to keep everything contained in certain areas,” Eklund said. “They brought in 150 of these blower heaters, dehumidifiers they had, and they had to close down the street. I swear to you, in a couple of hours, things were calming down.”

Despite the flooding, the hotel’s coffee shop, in-house restaurant, and the hotel itself was back up and running in just four days after the flooding…
