Strong Storms Moving Through SE Texas This Afternoon

HOUSTON, Texas (KIAH) — Strong storms are moving through Southeast Texas this early Wednesday afternoon, bringing heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds.

While storms have remained below severe limits so far today, the National Weather Service has issued several “Special Weather Statements”. Particularly strong storms are moving through Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria and Galveston counties, bringing downpours, numerous lightning strikes and wind gusts up to 40mph.

There is a chance one or two of these storms pulses up to severe limits over the next few hours. If that happens, the main threat would be straight line winds.

The storms are scattered throughout the area, moving to the northeast, and are likely to bring some minor street flooding where the heaviest rain falls. As we approach sunset, the activity should diminish, leaving us with a dry, but warm and humid night.
