Chalmette man jailed for alleged DWI in Lafourche Parish winds up on life support

THIBODAUX, La. (WVUE) – A Chalmette man jailed in Lafourche Parish on allegations that he drove while impaired has been hospitalized and placed on life support after collapsing in his cell, authorities said Tuesday (July 8).

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre’s office said 44-year-old Andrew Moity is receiving hospital care after deputies found him slumped over and unresponsive Sunday around 5:30 a.m.

A statement from the sheriff’s office said correctional officers saw Moity standing in his cell 15 minutes earlier, and their account was confirmed by video surveillance. The nature of the medical emergency the inmate suffered minutes later has not been disclosed…
