TikTokers Turn Costco Trip into International Food Fight
A TikTok video by American-Italian couple @thepassinis, known for their playful reviews of Costco products, has sparked a debate about – of all things – olive oil. The video, jokingly titled “Let’s go fix Costco,” features Alessio Pasini giving a thumbs-up to Parmigiano Reggiano and a pizza-making kit, humorously dubbed a “grown-up Lunchable.”
But the real drama unfolded in the olive oil aisle. Alessio conspicuously avoided Kirkland Signature extra-virgin olive oil, pointedly placing the plastic bottle back on the shelf with a zipped-lip gesture.
This silent critique ignited a flurry of comments. Fans demanded to know his reasoning, while others jumped in to defend the Kirkland oil, citing its Bureau Veritas certification and arguing that dark plastic protects against oxidation.
The @thepassinis later clarified their position: while they consider the Kirkland olive oil itself to be decent, they disapprove of its plastic packaging, believing it compromises freshness. This preference for glass over plastic reignited the debate, with some commenters explaining that dark plastic is acceptable if the oil is used quickly. The ongoing discussion highlights the passionate opinions surrounding food, especially staples like olive oil, and demonstrates how even a lighthearted TikTok video can stir up a global conversation.
