Marion County has deployed firefighters and emergency personnel to the state of Texas to help those who have been devastated by historic floods, with reports suggesting more than 100 people have lost their lives since the flash floods hit last week.
The Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 4 and Task Force 8 joined up and deployed from the Florida State Fire College in Ocala on Monday morning. The groups are heading west to support communities that have been impacted by floods across the state.
“These highly trained teams are deploying as specialized swift water search and rescue assets, along with medical specialists, bringing critical expertise and equipment to help locate, rescue, and protect those impacted by the devastation,” reads a statement from Marion County Fire Rescue.
On Monday, the teams were en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. According to MCFR, the groups will report to the Central Texas Operations Center in Austin on Tuesday afternoon to begin operations.
