A suspect hiding in the bushes opened fire hitting both officers. They were both taken to the hospital with one being in critical condition. Officer Kendall Corder later died from his wounds. Officer Christopher McCray survived his wounds and left the hospital a few days later. The suspect, a 22-year-old male, was taken into custody 5 hours later, at a home on the northside.

Officer Corder squad is on the front of the district two lawn and people are leaving cards, flowers, and other items to honor him. Numerous people are also leaving food and other items for the officers at the station. MPD released a video of Officer Corder talking about how he really loved being an officer. Officer Corder went to Cudahy High School and was on the football team. Many knew him as a gentle giant as he was six feet three inches tall. A teammate on the football team, Dylan Dooley, discussed their relationship. Dylan said,” he was a mentor to me.” “Pure leadership and passion.” “He went out of his way to protect those that were being bullied.” He continued, “he was a hero before he was on the police department.” Lastly, he said, “he protected those who could not protect themselves.”…
