Mayor Nichols highlights curfew impact, gun task force and youth programs in Tulsa

Two weeks after Tulsa implemented a weekend curfew for minors in the downtown area, Mayor Monroe Nichols says the policy is making a difference, reducing crowd sizes, easing pressure on police, and creating safer conditions for both businesses and young people.

A Targeted Approach to Crowd Control

The curfew applies to anyone under 18 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays inside the Inner Dispersal Loop (IDL). Nichols said the decision came after a series of violent incidents, including a deadly shooting at Juneteenth celebrations, raised concerns about late-night safety downtown.

“The curfew was never the end-all be-all,” Nichols said. “But the reality is just the crowd control downtown is a little too much.”
