There is an urgent need for emergency shelter services in Cumberland County. Two months ago one of the primary resources, The Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope shelter in downtown Fayetteville, closed due to inadequate funding. Cumberland County had been in discussions with The Salvation Army regarding the potential reopening of its Fayetteville shelter, but announced on June 20 that due to multiple ongoing issues and unresolved concerns, the County decided to end negotiations with The Salvation Army. A ground breaking was held last year for a Homeless Support Center, but the timeline for the opening of this new center is unclear, and community members are in need now.
To help provide for these residents in need, Cumberland County has opened a Request for Information (RFI) to identify experienced organizations interested in providing services for a temporary emergency homeless shelter.
