Mystic Ice Cream, a local ice cream shop, celebrated the grand opening of its newest location in Oxford, Florida. The shop, situated just behind Gio’s Deli off U.S. Highway 301, marks the fourth location for the family-run ice cream brand.
Co-owners Darrell and Lisa Day, who purchased Mystic Ice Cream from founder Jeff Markow in 2019, are leading the charge in expanding the brand’s footprint across the region. A fifth location is already planned to open at 348 Alexander Street in Mount Dora by late August or early September.
“We are very excited for these two new Mystic Ice Cream locations,” said Darrell Day. “I’m fortunate to have the gifts God has given me. Because of my education and performing background, I am able to use my gifts to enhance the experience of our customers when they come to Mystic.”
Music is a core part of the Mystic Ice Cream atmosphere, a reflection of Darrell’s lifelong passion for performing. His father, Joe, was a guitarist and singer, and his mother, Opal, toured the Midwest as a performer in the 1940s. Darrell began singing in church and playing piano at age 7, later learning guitar and trumpet before studying conducting and composition at Eastern Kentucky University, where he majored in voice.
The Days, who met through Christian Mingle, have been married for eight years and share a blended family of five adult children: Megan, Tom, Ryan, Garrett, and Nicholas…
