PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence officials are appealing a decision made by a three-member panel to reinstate a controversial city police officer previously accused of assaulting a man in handcuffs.
Vincent Ragosta and D. Peter DeSimone, the city’s attorneys in the case, filed the appeal in R.I. Superior Court on Thursday.
“Quite simply, Sergeant Hanley’s shocking betrayal of the public trust revealed that he is not worthy of the title or fit for the position of ‘law enforcement officer,’” the attorneys wrote. “Contrarily, and far from a law enforcement officer, he is an admitted criminal law breaker.”…
