75 gallons of fuel estimated to spill onto I-15 in early morning DUI crash

SANDY, Utah (ABC4) — A crash on southbound I-15 slowed down the early morning commute on Thursday, July 10.

Lt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol confirmed with ABC4.com that the crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-15 near 9000 South around 3:20 a.m. A white sedan reportedly hit the barricade and rebounded into traffic, colliding with a semi-truck.

The sedan reportedly blocked the second to right lane, forcing the right two lanes of five to be shut down. Lt. Roden said the crash ruptured the semi-truck’s fuel line, causing it to leak gas onto the highway. Officials estimate up to 75 gallons of fuel spilled, prompting a call for the health department to respond.

Fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of the crash and as of 7:45 a.m., all five lanes of southbound traffic have been reopened. Morning commuters, however, may still expect some residual delays…
