Clarice Cliff Crockery Collection Stuns ‘Antiques Roadshow’ Guests
A couple experienced quite the shock on “Antiques Roadshow” after learning the staggering value of their inherited Clarice Cliff ceramic collection. The collection, originally purchased by the guest’s grandparents, included around 100 plates, cups, and saucers.
While the family heirlooms themselves were impressive, one piece, in particular, caught the expert’s eye – an 18-inch charger in the Bridgewater Green pattern. The guest’s husband had purchased the charger in a Cardiff antique shop for a mere £35 (around $47).
As the expert began the appraisal, the couple’s jaws dropped. A pair of jugs were valued at £500-£700 ($678-$950) each, and a unique conical sugar sifter fetched a similar price.
Then came the big reveal: the charger was estimated to be worth a whopping £3,000-£4,000 ($4,073-$5,430). Overcome with surprise, the guest asked, “Can I sit down?”
The expert, however, wasn’t finished. Individual cups and saucers were appraised at £300-£400 ($407-$543) each, and plates at £200 ($271.5) apiece.
Although not all of the original 100 pieces remained intact, the expert estimated the value of the items presented on the table at a remarkable £10,000-£15,000 ($13,575.5-$20,365). Any additional pieces at home would surely add to this impressive total.
The couple left the show stunned, their £35 investment having turned into a small fortune.
