SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — Later this year, work will begin to renourish a 1.2-mile stretch of Lido Beach.
The last renourishment project wrapped up in 2021, but the impacts of hurricanes in the last five years have caused significant erosion to the shoreline.

“Since that point, we have lost about 200,000 to 300,000 yd.³ of sand,” city engineer Nikesh Patel said. “That means it is about roughly about 17,000 to 30,000 truckloads of sand.”
The sand will be dredged out of New Pass, just north of the key. Patel said the project will renourish the beach and also improve navigation for boaters in the pass, where he said it is currently very shallow…
