19-year-old arrested for alleged connection to ISU shooting

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — A man who was allegedly involved in a shooting at the Bone Student Center on Illinois State University’s campus was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Emir Thomas, 19, of Chicago, was arrested in Chicago by the U.S. Marshals and was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery-discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to an Illinois State University Police Department Facebook post.

“We recognize that waiting for the full results of an investigation can feel uncertain and unsettling,” Chief Aaron Woodruff said. “Throughout this process, our community’s safety and well-being have remained our highest priorities. I want to thank our officers, dispatchers, and our law enforcement partners for their diligence, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the safety of our campus community.”
