Quaid’s Texas Ties Deepen Flood’s Pain

Additional Coverage:

Texas native Dennis Quaid shared a personal connection to the recent devastating flash floods that swept through the state. His 17-year-old daughter, Zoe, was working as a counselor at a summer camp north of Kerrville when the floods hit.

While the camp itself was relatively safe, Quaid recounted a sleepless night spent worrying after being unable to reach his daughter. He was relieved to finally connect with her the following day.

Tragically, the floods claimed the life of a camper’s family, who were vacationing in an RV along the Guadalupe River. Quaid, whose ties to Texas run deep, also expressed his condolences to the Hunt family, who lost 9-year-old Janie Hunt in the disaster. He urged prayers and support for the victims and highlighted the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, which is aiding in recovery efforts.

Quaid also discussed his new film, “Sovereign,” now in theaters and available digitally. Based on a true story, the film explores the world of sovereign citizens, individuals who believe they are exempt from U.S. law.

Quaid plays a police chief who encounters a father and son (played by Nick Offerman and Jacob Tremblay) who identify as sovereign citizens. He emphasized the importance of portraying such politically charged stories responsibly, focusing on the facts rather than imposing a political agenda.

Quaid prepared for the role by speaking with the real-life police chief who inspired his character and noted the director’s personal connection to the sovereign citizen movement. He described the film as a “mythic” story reminiscent of the Old West.
