Tips for detecting sun poisoning during hot weather

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WHSV) – Sun poisoning is a term used to describe a severe sunburn that can cause symptoms in addition to sun burn.

Dr. Sandra Nixon, medical toxicology fellow with the Blue Ridge Poison Center, said these symptoms can include vomiting, dehydration and blisters.

“If these blisters pop, which a lot of them do, it can lead to skin infections,” Dr. Nixon said. “Some of them [people with sun poisoning] do require emergency medical attention, fluids and infection treatments,” Dr. Nixon said…
