Former Lincoln bar owner’s legacy cemented with honorary street name ahead of ‘Zoofest’

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Music has filled 14th street in downtown Lincoln for more than half a century thanks to former owner of the Zoo Bar Larry Boehmer, and now, his legacy will live on.

Boehmer, who died in 2012, was honored ahead of this year’s annual Zoofest with street sign named for him on 14th between O and P.

“By naming the heart of Lincoln’s music scene after him, we celebrate his influence in helping to build it,” Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said. “We tell more of our Lincoln story to those who come here. Boehmer Street reflects the lively music scene that has long shaped Lincoln’s unique sound and spirit.”…
