Proposed law change hopes to enforce ‘zero-tolerance policy’ for catalytic converter thefts in Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A proposed addition to Kern County’s Ordinance Code aims to reduce catalytic converter thefts across the county while protecting residents and making the investigation process more efficient for local law enforcement, according to the Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting agenda.

The proposal comes after the board asked County Counsel to work with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office in May to draft a catalytic converter ordinance to address the thefts in unincorporated Kern County, according to the agenda.

The proposal is expected to be brought up to the Kern County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
