A “Pawn Stars” episode recently showcased a surprising turn of events, even for the notoriously shrewd Rick Harrison. A guest arrived with a Gibson Master Museum acoustic guitar, a stunning piece of craftsmanship featuring intricate pearl and abalone inlays. He claimed it was the most beautiful acoustic Chumlee and Corey had ever seen, protectively preventing anyone from touching it.
The guest initially set a steep asking price of $50,000. Harrison, never one to overspend, called in guitar expert Jesse Ambroso for an appraisal. Ambroso, clearly impressed, declared the instrument could fetch $50,000 to $60,000.
Negotiations commenced, with the guest holding firm at a minimum of $48,000. Despite his initial hesitation, Harrison agreed.
But as the deal neared completion, the guest experienced a sudden change of heart. Calling the guitar “his baby,” he backed out, leaving Harrison surprised but perhaps relieved.
This unexpected twist saved the Pawn Stars boss a hefty investment on an item that might have sat on his shelves for years.
