DPD warns of ‘trending’ Facebook Marketplace thefts

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton residents should be cautious when making purchases through Facebook Marketplace as thefts on the platform are on an upward trend once again.

The Dayton Police Department warns that customers may want to consider using a safe exchange zone in response to the trend.

“For items such as ATVs the suspects will often ask for a test drive, give envelopes filled with fake money, and then speed off,” the department says in a social media post. “These thefts can involve other items of value as well.”…
