A man was shot in the hand by a Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy Wednesday morning during an attempt to serve a warrant in South Knox County. According to a statement from the KCSO, obtained by WVLT, the incident took place just after 9 a.m. when deputies arrived at a residence on Windtree Oaks Lane near the 7300 block of Brook Run Way to serve an outstanding warrant.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which has been called in to conduct an investigation into the officer-involved shooting, detailed in a release that the deputies were attempting to arrest a male subject who, while being taken into custody, brandished a knife, prompting a deputy to discharge their firearm. Trying to control the situation, the injured man was then transported to a local hospital with injuries considered to be non-life-threatening.
Kimberly Glenn, a spokesperson for the KCSO, confirmed to WBIR that no deputies were injured during the incident.
