BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) — The R.I. Department of Health issued an overdose spike alert for four communities Friday due to an increase in drug overdoses.
Health officials said between July 4 and July 10, fewer than five non-fatal overdoses happened in Region 1, which consists of Burrillville, Foster, Glocester and Scituate. (The threshold for an alert in that region is two.)
“In Rhode Island, every city and town has seen an overdose,” the notice said. “Illicit fentanyl continues to dominate the drug supply and has been detected in stimulants like cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, as well as counterfeit pills.”

“Stimulants could be contaminated with fentanyl and put people who use stimulants at risk of opioid overdose, especially those who do not regularly consume opioids and have a lower opioid tolerance,” the notice continued…
