HONOLULU (Island News) – The City and County of Honolulu is recommending new safeguards when it comes to transferring vehicle titles.
Number one on the list: both buyers and private sellers should go together in person to transfer the title at a satellite city hall on Oahu.
Car buyers are highly encouraged to research sellers ahead of time, especially when they don’t know them, and to be wary of unlicensed car dealers disguised as private-party sellers.
The City’s Department of Customer Service says buyers should also ask to see the seller’s official photo, preferably on a driver’s license or state identification card, to verify that the identification matches the information on the registration and title.
