New Battle Creek Air National Guard Base gate ups security, draws down traffic

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD)  — After two years, a new $10 million entrance for the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base is drawing traffic away from West Dickman Road.

Beyond the fencing around the installation lie critical missions in national defense that have a ripple effect half a world away. The base hosts the 272d Cyber Operations Squadron, service members tasked with monitoring defense networks for threats.

Pilots who fly the MQ-9 drones thousands of miles from the actual aircraft call the facility home…
