Man arrested for possession of illegal drugs, firearm in Yorktown: Deputies

YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) – A man was arrested for possession of illegal drugs and a firearm after a traffic stop in Yorktown July 7, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

The traffic stop occurred at 10:25 a.m. in the area of Big Bethel Road and Hampton Highway and during the traffic stop a K9 was used and gave a positive response to the presence of illegal drugs.

The vehicle was then searched and cocaine, heroin and a firearm were seized, according to deputies. The driver, 35-year-old Robert Benjamin Brown, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Carry a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a firearm while in possession of Schedule 1 or 2 drugs
  • Possession with intent to distribute cocaine
  • Possession with intent to distribute heroin
  • Multiple traffic offenses

Brown is currently being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail…
