Several homes, outdoor areas struck by lightning in Bluffton during Thursday storms

BLUFFTON, Sc. (WTOC) – The Bluffton Township Fire District responded to several emergency calls after Thursday’s thunderstorms.

Several homes and outdoor areas were struck by lightning which caused structure fires, power outages, smoke inside homes, and small outdoor fires.

One incident involved a lightning strike on a gas line that caused a fire in the lower level of a home on Greenleaf Road in the Palmetto Bluff community. The fire was contained and the home was saved.

Other areas that were affected include homes along Martingale West, Hartwell Road, Mainland Lakes Drive, Coventry Court, and Yonges Island Drive. Many residents experienced smoke conditions, electrical surges, and damage to homes and nearby trees…
