WFD reports no structure fires from fireworks in 2025

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Wichita Fire Department reported that there were no structure fires during the July 4 holiday this year. On Thursday, the WFD shared that they responded to zero structure fires.

Additionally, the WFD shared statistics comparing the years 2023 and 2025. It’s important to note that 2023 was the first year the City of Wichita allowed the use of aerial fireworks.

There were no structure fires reported during the 2025 Fourth of July holiday, compared to 11 fires in 2023. While fires were down, calls to the non-emergency line were up. Dispatchers handled 1,188 calls this year for the entirety of Sedgwick County, which is 140 more than in 2023. Of those, 866 came from within city limits, and 410 occurred during hours when fireworks were not allowed…
