Sun Valley Standoff, Resident Faces Multiple Charges After Confrontation with Deputies Amid House Fire

A structure fire broke out in Sun Valley on Thursday, leading to a standoff with law enforcement. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said Scott Sistrunk confronted deputies with a 2×4 while a fire burned an outbuilding on his property.

At about 8:30 a.m., fire and law enforcement responded to a fire where a resident, identified as Sistrunk, reportedly refused to leave his home or follow commands. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Upon arrival, fire and law enforcement personnel encountered a combative resident believed to be armed.” A K-9 unit was used to subdue Sistrunk so firefighters could respond to the fire. He was taken into custody and charged with resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder, mistreating a police animal, and interfering with a firefighter.
