Man carves ‘I Love You’ into pregnant ex-girlfriend’s apartment door

A Leesburg man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday after carving “I Love You” into the apartment door of his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

On the morning of June 14, an officer with the Fruitland Park Police Department responded to an unwelcome person knocking on the door of a Fruitland Acres apartment, according to an affidavit of probable cause out of Lake County. He noticed 34-year-old Jonathan Dwight Kirkland riding away from the apartments on the bicycle before he got there.

Once at the apartment, the officer saw “I Love You” carved into the paint on the metal door. The resident inside advised that Kirkland came to her front door, knocked and cried about wanting to see her. They were once in a relationship and lived together. She was also pregnant with Kirkland as the suspected father, the affidavit said.

The residentexplained that she did not want to see Kirkland due to his aggressive behavior and illegal drug use. When he knocked at the door, she did not talk to him but knew it was him by his voice. About five minutes before the officer got there, she heard what sounded like a sharp object dragging on the door, the affidavit said…
