A multi-vehicle collision disrupted traffic on Interstate 35 in Northeast Austin last Thursday night, causing all lanes to close temporarily as emergency services responded to the scene. According to a report by CBS Austin, the crash involved an 18-wheeler and five other vehicles and happened near Tech Ridge Blvd. The initial closures affected both directions of I-35, with the southbound lanes at Parmer Ln and the northbound lanes at Tech Ridge Blvd being shut down.
Despite roads being closed, the authorities efficiently managed the chaos, reopening all lanes roughly two hours after the incident. After the accident at around 9 p.m., the northbound lanes were cleared at about 10:20 p.m., followed by the complete reopening of all lanes by 10:48 p.m., CBS Austin details. As the lanes were being reopened, the Texas Department of Transportation had encouraged drivers to expect delays and plan accordingly during the closure.
Evaluating the human cost of the incident, Austin-Travis County EMS reported that they assessed eight individuals involved.
