Preserving Tennessee’s farmland for the future

About a decade ago, Todd Jennings, his brother, Walt, and their father, Buford, began contemplating the future of Rock Creek Farm, their 100-acre farmland in Lynchburg, Tennessee. As their grandmother, Louise Ervin, neared the end of her life, she grew increasingly concerned about whether the land would stay within the family.

“One of the things she would always tell my brother and me was, ‘Don’t let this farm come between you.’ My brother and I farm together every day,” Todd Jennings said.

The Jennings family chose to safeguard their property with a conservation easement with the Land Trust for Tennessee. The legal contract protects their land from development indefinitely, even if its ownership changes…
