Sports legend Jackie Joyner-Kersee among 2025 honorary Delta Sigma Theta inductees

East St. Louis native and sports icon Jackie Joyner-Kersee has been inducted as an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The honor took place earlier this week during the sorority’s 57th National Convention – which is currently underway in Washington, D.C.

“This year’s class of Honorary Members represents a powerhouse group of barrier-breaking women across politics, entertainment, business, sports and social impact,” said Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. International President Elsie Cooke-Holmes, according to watchtheyard.com. “Each one is a force in her field and a reflection of Delta’s enduring mission.”

One of the most decorated athletes in Olympic history, Sports Illustrated named her the “Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century.” In addition to being a legend of the Olympic games, Joyner-Kersee is equally known for her charitable work off the field.
