BOISE, ID – In a move aimed at strengthening statewide emergency preparedness, the Idaho Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) officially transitioned to the Idaho Military Division (IMD) on July 1, 2025.
The shift, authorized by House Bill 206 and approved during the 2025 legislative session, transfers EMS responsibilities from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare to the Idaho Military Division. The move is designed to streamline emergency operations, improve coordination, and address long-term challenges such as staffing and sustainability within Idaho’s EMS system.
