Tracking a daily chance of late-day storms for the week ahead

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A rinse and repeat weather pattern will carry into this week with summertime PM thunderstorms possible on a daily basis.

First Alert Headlines

  • Steamy this evening with thunderstorms around.
  • Afternoon storms develop Monday.
  • Typical summertime weather pattern continues for most of the upcoming work week.

First Alert Summary:

Keep an eye to the sky for evening outdoor plans! Pop-up thunderstorms will hang around portions of the Midlands mainly between now and through sunset. Some could be intense with locally heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds. Rain chances as a whole will taper off overnight as temperatures fall to the middle 70s.

Monday’s forecast will feature more heat, humidity, and PM thunderstorms. High temperatures in the afternoon will peak in the lower to middle 90s. However, heat index values are expected to run closer to 100-degrees and potentially slightly higher. We also expect later-day storms to develop tomorrow. Main threats with any storms include heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

The heat is expected to back off a bit by mid-week as upper level ridging shifts a bit and with a weakening front nearing the region. Temperatures towards Wednesday are forecast to run closer to 90-degrees with a chance of scattered showers and storms.

We should see the ridge strengthen and build back overhead heading by late week into next weekend. This would likely result in temperatures heating back up to the middle 90s.

First Alert Forecast:

Tonight: Lingering shower or storm early on. Partly cloudy with lows in the middle 70s…
