Lawmakers, do not override DeWine’s wise veto of items imperiling school district finances

As a Mentor Board of Education member, I know how much thought goes into levy requests. We know costs are high — especially for those on fixed incomes. Yet when state lawmakers refuse to fully and fairly fund public education, we have no choice but to ask local taxpayers for their support.

That’s why I was grateful when Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed items in the state budget that would have made it harder for school districts to fund day-to-day operations, build new schools, or repair old facilities. But House Speaker Matt Huffman is calling members back to Columbus on July 21 to override them…
