Severe Thunderstorms, Gusty Winds For North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe weather outlook for North Florida on Sunday, July 13, 2025, due to a marginal risk of severe weather this afternoon and early evening.

Scattered afternoon thunderstorms are expected to be most prominent across the eastern half of the Peninsula due to the presence of a developing tropical system off of Florida’s Gulf Coast.

According to NWS Jacksonville, strong to isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening, mainly across the I-95 corridor of northeast Florida.

Stronger storms will be capable of producing:

  • Damaging winds (40-60 mph), capable of impacting structures and trees.
  • Heavy downpours, which may lead to localized flooding in areas already saturated from recent rainfall.
  • Frequent lightning strikes, which may be fatal to people and pets who remain outside.

North Florida cities at risk for severe thunderstorms include:

  • Jacksonville Beach
  • Saint Augustine
  • Live Oak
  • Palatka
  • Lake City
  • Gainesville
  • Ocala
