New Chef on Top: Karl Strauss names new executive chef for DTLA, SoCal locations

As a child growing up near Boston, Corey Rapp got his start in the kitchen by cleaning dishes. At 13 years old, he started working as a dishwasher, then spent his teenage years cooking seafood at two local restaurants. He always wanted to be a chef and follow in the footsteps of his grandmother, an avid cook and restaurant owner.

Many years and kitchens later, Rapp has gone above and beyond for his dream. San Diego-based Karl Strauss Brewing Company recently tapped him as its new executive chef for the Downtown Los Angeles brewpub and nine other Southern California locations.

“We have really good people here, and I love just working alongside them,” Rapp said. “I love leading them. I love solving challenges with them, and I love motivating them. It’s really about the people along the way.”…
