While there is no manual on parenthood nor a one-size-fits-all parenting guide, your community offers plenty of free parenthood programs that can make the road a little smoother. Parenting classes are, most of the time, evidence-based intervention programs that provide helpful tools, expert advice, and a chance to connect with other parents on the same boat as you.
Working with families and children has taught me a great deal about effective parenting strategies. But, putting them into practice with my almost 2-year-old has been the most challenging part. I am sure many of us parents have questioned ourselves, Is this the appropriate way to handle this tantrum? Am I spoiling my kid too much? How can I appropriately handle this new behavior?
Below, I compiled a variety of parenting classes in El Paso, Texas, that you can take advantage of.
Texas Home Visiting Program, HIPPY
HIPPY staff provide home visits to deliver school readiness activities, guide parents to become advocates for their children’s success, refer to services, and provide fun and learning activities for parents and children. HIPPY is available to children two to four years old. More information at: https://epccinc.org/texas-home-visitors/
Parent Cafes
Parent Cafes are safe spaces for parents and caregivers to relax, reflect, and talk about the joys and challenges of raising a family. They are free and bilingual. You will meet other parents and learn from their parenthood experiences. Visit: https://epccinc.org/parent-cafes/

Incredible Years
Incredible Years are group parenting classes for families that want to improve their parenting skills. IY is an evidence-based program for parents with children from newborn to five years of age. Classes are held in different locations in the city year-round and are available in English and Spanish.
