Carencro man wins $2 million in July 5 Powerball drawing

BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) – A Carencro man is now a millionaire after cashing in a winning Powerball ticket, according to the Louisiana Lottery.

Fermon Bonin of Carencro won the $2 million prize after buying a ticket for the July 5 drawing at the Shop Rite on North University Avenue in Lafayette, lottery officials said. He claimed his prize on July 8, taking home $1,460,000 after state and federal tax withholdings.

Bonin came just one number shy of winning the $192.4 million Powerball jackpot. He matched all five white ball numbers and added the Power Play option for the chance to multiply any non-jackpot winnings, officials said.
