North Augusta residents alarmed by increased wildlife deaths

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – Brick Pond Park is often called “the gem of the city”.

“I quickly became fascinated with the alligators. As well as all the other wildlife,” said Sandy Zanko, who lives in North Augusta. “But it’s just such an amazing place with all the variety of wildlife you see.”

An inmate in Columbia County Detention Center was found unresponsive in her cell and later died on Sunday.

But in the last few days, Zanko noticed a smell she couldn’t ignore. She said it started with a large dead turtle and then came the fish…
