STUART — Dozens of residents and visitors gathered at Stuart Beach early Monday morning, July 7, to witness a special event: the excavation of a sea turtle nest as part of Martin County’s ecotourism education efforts.
Led by a partnership between Ecological Associates, Inc. and the Martin County Office of Tourism and Marketing, the nest excavation was conducted by a few biologists from the EAI.
As the excavation of the sea turtle nest carried on, four live hatchlings were revealed amongst the buried sand. With each being carefully recovered, the baby sea turtle hatchlings were released safely into the ocean, as those who signed up to partake in viewing the excavation witnessed the whole process…
