In response to the recent floods sweeping through Texas, Oklahoma City has stepped up by sending additional resources to aid in the disaster response efforts. A team of seven, inclusive of five members from the Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCFD), one officer from the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD), and one member from the Mustang Fire Department, have joined forces to combat the ensuing chaos caused by the floodwaters. According to the OKCFD’s statement on social media, the team embarked on their journey early this morning and have touched down safely in the affected region in Texas.
These efforts are Oklahoma City’s second instance of dispatching aid to Texas amidst the current flooding emergency. The deployment was facilitated through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a mutual-aid agreement that allows for interstate support during times of crisis. Oklahoma City’s deployment package includes a “Type III Swift Water Team” and a “Law Enforcement Officer and Vehicle.” Despite this out-of-state support, OKCFD assures that their home city’s readiness remains uncompromised, “Even while assisting our neighbors in Texas, OKCFD remains fully prepared here at home. We have three water rescue stations that are always staffed—along with numerous swift water technicians and boats strategically placed throughout the city to ensure a rapid response if needed.”…
