CAR MEETS PLUS BIKERS WITH BACKPACKS

RENO, NV (JULY 13) — Despite the record setting heat it was a busy day here in Reno. There were two car meets plus a function that brought bike clubs together for a charity event aimed at helping disadvantaged kids that needed school supplies.

• Things got rolling around 10 a.m. when Sparks Cars & Coffee met at the Starbucks off Disc Drive.

In addition to groups of Corvettes one had its top in the halfway position . This allowed people to see where it was stored.

Over on another row were a couple of cars from the Midnight Riders car club.

Many times folks find an older vehicle and breath new life into it. For Hal Mintun it’s a case of owning a vehicle that is virtual new even though the first owner purchased it over 60 years ago.

Asked about the car he said, “This is a 1964 Corvair Monza, which I was able to purchase off the original owner 5 years ago, who retired from driving at the age of 93. He had this car in his garage in San Francisco since he purchased it in November of ’63.

“It’s all original, he gave me a giant stacks of receipts for all the service it had since it was new and kept it in perfect running condition.”

Mintun added when the original owner bought the car he covered all the seats, dashboard and trunk in plastic…
