Fire destroys 99-year-old Tacoma mill, firefighter minorly injured

Firefighters in Tacoma spent the night battling a large blaze at Johnson’s Millwork along South Tacoma Way.

According to the Tacoma Fire Department, the fire started just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. By 6 a.m. Monday morning, 12 hours later, flames were still visible on the building.

Crews found the fire was burning heavily in the basement, meaning they couldn’t safely get to it, and pulled back to a defensive operation…
