A Nevada mother faces attempted murder and child abuse charges after allegedly abandoning her newborn son in a dumpster. 28-year-old Taylour Sierra Dickinson was arrested last week following the incident, which occurred at an apartment complex on July 5th.
According to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, Dickinson gave birth to the baby boy in the early morning hours and allegedly placed him in a garbage bag shortly thereafter. A passerby heard the infant’s cries and alerted authorities, leading to the child’s rescue. The baby is now reported to be healthy and doing well.
Sheriff Darin Balaam praised the actions of the citizen who discovered the child, calling them a “true hero.” He also thanked detectives for their swift work in identifying and arresting Dickinson.
Details of the case emerged during Dickinson’s bond hearing. Detective Claire Hoops-Adams of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office testified that surveillance footage captured Dickinson discarding the garbage bag containing the newborn.
Dickinson claims she was unaware of her pregnancy until she gave birth. She reportedly told investigators that she panicked and believed leaving the baby in the dumpster was her “best option,” hoping someone would find him.
Dickinson, who has two other children aged 4 and 10, reportedly cited financial struggles as a factor in her decision.
