Service Alert Update: Union City Drop Off Locations Close, Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station Re

UNION CITY, CA, July 14, 2025 – Union City’s waste hauler, Republic Services, remains impacted by a labor action involving drivers who began a work stoppage on July 8 in solidarity with Teamster union members nationwide. As a result of the work disruption, the following services are currently delayed:

  • Landfill (garbage) collection for all residents, apartments/condos, and businesses.
  • Recycling and compost collection served by Republic Services for apartments/condos and businesses.

Note: Compost and recycling collection services provided by Tri-CED Community Recycling are not impacted. Please continue to set out all Tri-CED recycling and compost carts on your regularly scheduled pickup day

Household waste drop-off locations in Union City are discontinued effective 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2025.

Union City residents may continue to dispose of garbage at no additional cost by delivering garbage to Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station at 41149 Boyce Road. The facility is open Monday- Friday from 8:00AM – 5:00PM. Please bring proof of residency or business address to receive free disposal services.

As the City pursues all available remedies, we invite our community to join us in preserving the health, safety, and livability of our neighborhoods.

  • Compost food scraps. This reduces odor and volume in your trash.
  • Secure trash bags tightly to prevent pests and odors. Consider double or triple-bagging potentially smelly items such as pet waste. Reuse old plastic bags you may have on hand.
  • Carts should remain at curbside.

We will continue to provide timely updates as more information becomes available…
